In this lecture I offer an overview on perception, covering the physiology, psychophysics (absolute and relative thresholds, scaling). This lecture focuses specifically on perception, differentiating it from sensation and examining the processes involved. It details the influence of facto
rs such as attention, stimulus configuration, personality, and culture on perception, with an emphasis on Gestalt principles and depth perception.
Objectives of this Lecture
At the end of the lecture, the students will be able to:● Define perception and differentiate it from sensation.● Compare bottom-up processing and top-down processing and provide examples of each.● Identify the factors that can affect perception.● Discuss how attention, stimulus configuration, and personal factors influence perception.● Name the Gestalt principles of perceptual organization and illustrate each with examples.-
